Specific ally\, we will cover the different assumptions required and types of analy ses one can use when trying to synthesize information from different sourc es. We will begin by considering the case of estimating a mean for single characteristic from different studies. We will discuss different estimator s and diagnostic plots that can be used estimate quantities of interest an d to assess the assumptions necessary for proper inference.  Then we will consider methods for synthesizing comparisons amongst two or more groups a cross different contexts and different approaches that can be used. Finall y\, we will briefly discuss how to use study level information to adjust f or heterogeneity across data sources.\n\nParticipants will get access to s everal worked examples written in R\, mostly using the meta and metafor R packages.\n\nAt the end of this workshop\, you will be able to:\n   - Under stand the assumptions necessary for proper synthesis of estimates from mul tiple data sources.\n   - Understand the different estimators that can be u sed and which estimators are likely to perform better in which context.\n    - Understand the differences between arm-based and contrast-based estimat ion for synthesizing measures from multiple groups.\n    - Conduct explorat ory analyses\, fit standard meta-analysis models and assess fidelity to mo del assumptions using the meta and metafor packages in R.\n\nPrerequisites :\n    - An undergraduate/graduate introduction to statistics (basic knowle dge of means\, variances\, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals)\; \n    - Basic knowledge of R (basic R commands and understanding of how to analyze data in R)\n       · Install R and RStudio on your computer. You ca n find installation instructions here. Please contact us (cdsi.science [at ] mcgill.ca) if you are having trouble with installation.\n       · You nee d to bring your own laptop for this workshop. Contact us if you would like to attend but it's impossible for you to bring a laptop.\n\n\n Location: H YBRID. Online via Zoom\, or in-person at Burnside Hall room 1104 (11th flo or).\n Instructor: Prof. Russell Steele\, Dept. of Mathematics and Statisti cs\, ºÚÁÏÍø.\n\nRegistration: Register Here\n DTSTART:20240325T140000Z DTEND:20240325T140000Z SUMMARY:Workshop: Meta-Analysis URL:/cdsi/channels/event/workshop-meta-analysis-353558 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
