DESCRIPTION:The Neuro Film Series begins its fourth season with the film “K
 -PAX” on Thursday\, October 10\, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Jeanne Timmins Amp
 hitheatre at The Neuro. “K-PAX” is a 2001 American science fiction and mys
 tery film directed by Iain Softley and starring Kevin Spacey\, Jeff Bridge
 s\, Mary McCormack and Alfre Woodard. The screenplay\, written by Gene Bre
 wer and Charles Leavitt\, is based on the novel by Brewer about a psychiat
 ric patient who claims to be an alien from the planet K-PAX. During his tr
 eatment involving regression hypnosis for delusional behaviour\, the patie
 nt demonstrates an outlook on life that ultimately proves inspiration for 
 his fellow patients and especially for his psychiatrist.  Our Neuro host\,
  Dr. Joe Makkerh is the Program Administrator of ������’s Integrated Progr
 am in Neuroscience. Dr. Makkerh studied at Cambridge University for both h
 is undergraduate degree and PhD. After his PhD in 1995\,  he research focu
 sed on cancer and arthritis. He came to The Neuro in 2000 to work with Dr.
  Philip Barker and became hooked on neuroscience. After a stint as lead re
 searcher in a company developing new anti-pain drugs\, he returned to McGi
 ll and The Neuro in his current position. He now considers himself an adop
 ted neuroscientist with a broad range of interests in the field. In his sp
 are time\, he is a personal trainer and is passionate about explaining sci
 entific concepts to members of the public and school children. Dr. Makkerh
  will offer comments and invite discussion about the film following it’s c
 lose.Discover Science at the movies on October 10\, 6:30 pm at the Neuro F
