Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind may have been inspired by neuroscientist Karim Nader’s (McGi ll University) research on altering traumatic memories. Dr. Durcan was born in Winnipeg where he obtained his MD fr om the University of Manitoba. He moved to Montreal to complete his reside ncy in neurology at . He is currently a staff neurologist at the Montreal Neurological Hospital and an assistant Professor in the D epartment of Neurology and Neurosurgery at . He has publi shed short fiction since 2000 in a variety of Canadian and American Journa ls. His short fiction has won the 2004 Quebec Writers Federation/CBC prize and his work has been shortlisted 3 times for the CBC National Literary A wards. He has had two books of fiction published (A Short Journey by Car-- 2004 and Garcia's Heart--2007) (/reporter/39/17/durca n/). Dr. Durcan lives in Montreal with his wife and children.
