Kiana Kishiyama remembers feeling scared when, at the start of her first undergraduate class in beginner鈥檚 Mandarin, her teacher looked at her and said, 鈥淵ou need to speak to me after class.鈥�
鈥淎nd I鈥檓 like, what, I鈥檓 in trouble already?鈥�
It turned out that the teacher believed that Kishiyama, who was adopted from China by a Canadian couple, was just being modest about her language skills.
We are proud to announce that Dr. Nanre Nafziger, DISE, is a 2025 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research topic is Contestations for Nigerian History Education in Primary and Secondary Schools: from Colonialism to Neocolonialism. This year, the selection committee, comprised of leading scholars in education research, selected 25 fellows from an extremely competitive pool of 270 education scholars.

Valedictorian Helena Silen, part of the inaugural cohort of the B.A. (Ed.) Education in a Global Contexts program, will be representing the Faculty of Education鈥檚 Class of 2025 at Convocation on May 29th at 3:00 PM.

DISE Professors Philip S. S. Howard (Principal Investigator) and Nanre Nafziger (Co-investigator) and Faculty of Education Liaison Librarian, Sharon Rankin (Co-investigator) and Co-investigators, Professors Tya Collins and Lerona Dana Lewis of the University of Ottawa, have received a grant from the Harvard Graduate School of Education Black Teacher Archive program.
University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate Rachel Cluett (BA鈥�24) is one of 20 Canadians selected to join the fifth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at 黑料网. Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.
Rachel will pursue a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology at 黑料网.

Daniel Fortin-Guichard, Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, was invited to the Temps d'Arr锚t podcast hosted by (Fran莽ois Rodrigue), an Assistant Professor at the Universit茅 du Qu茅bec en Outaouais, discussing cognitive biases that selectors may have when identifying and selecting athletes (e.g., at the NHL draft).听
Dr. Tina Montreuil, a researcher at the Educational and Counselling Psychology Department (Associate Member of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences), has been awarded the prestigious FRQS Chercheur Boursier Junior 2 award this past April 2025.听
Canada in general, and Montreal specifically, have been facing a drug toxicity and fatal overdose crisis for nearly a decade. While integrated systems of interventions are necessary to address drug-related harms, the use of naloxone has been a key strategy to reduce the acute effect of opioid-involved deaths. Currently, 黑料网 does not offer naloxone trainings to the campus community, limiting students鈥� ability to assist in the event of an overdose.
The Kaushalam program, a collaborative initiative between the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Uttarakhand and the Udyam Learning Foundation, aims to cultivate 21st-century life skills and an entrepreneurial mindset among students in Uttarakhand. A comprehensive study conducted during the 2024鈥�25 academic year assessed the program's impact on Grade 9 students across seven districts.
