DESCRIPTION:In 1970 Richard Branson founded Virgin as a mail order record\n
 retailer\, and shortly afterwards opened a record shop in Oxford\nStreet\,
  London. In 1972 he built a recording studio where the first\nVirgin artis
 t\, Mike Oldfield\, recorded 'Tubular Bells'.\nWith around 200 companies i
 n over 30 countries\, the Virgin Group\nhas now expanded into leisure\, tr
 avel\, tourism\, mobile\, broadband\,\nTV\, radio\, music festivals\, fina
 nce and health and through Virgin\nGreen Fund they are investing in renewa
 ble energy and resource\nefficiency.  Richard is also very proud of the wo
 rk of Virgin\nUnite\, a not-for-profit entrepreneurial foundation\, which 
 continues\nto focus on entrepreneurial approaches to social and environmen
 tal\nissues. He was knighted in 1999 for his 'services to\nentrepreneurshi
