A desire to test that hy pothesis has drawn occupational and environmental health researchers to si tes where CKDnt is widespread. Perhaps most prominent among these is the s ugarcane zone of western Nicaragua\, where thousands of laborers have been diagnosed with kidney disease. In this talk\, Nading develops a critical anthropological approach to planetary health\, arguing that the recent foc us on mitigating workplace heat exposure elides other environmental health concerns regarding industrial sugar production\, particularly about the u se of toxic agrochemicals. The systematic push by corporations and transna tional scientists to find ways to profitably produce sugarcane under condi tions of extreme heat is paralleled by the efforts of sugarcane zone resid ents to make knowledge claims about the slower and more accretive changes in climate wrought by chemically driven cane production.\n\n \n DTSTART:20251113T173000Z DTEND:20251113T190000Z LOCATION:Room 160\, Arts Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0G5\, 853 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Planetary Health as Atmospheric Cultivation: Lessons from Nicaragu a's Sugarcane Zone URL:/isid/channels/event/planetary-health-atmospheric- cultivation-lessons-nicaraguas-sugarcane-zone-367478 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
