It will take place on Thursd ay\, January 11\, 2018\, from 12:30 to 14:00 in Room 3M-48\, Strathcona Bu ilding\, ºÚÁÏÍø (3640 University\, Montreal). \n\nAbstract\n\nK orean biobanks are now changing to integrate the new paradigm of precision medicine into their fundamental role of promoting health technology. Sinc e the enactment of Bioethics and Safety Act in 2004\, the Republic of Kore a has developed a regulatory framework that reflects ethical principles. H owever\, the regulation of biobanks has recently proven to be limited in r esponding to newer ethical and legal issues that have arisen. First\, as t here is an emerging trend for human biospecimens to be stored\, managed an d distributed as digitalized data\, the current role of the Distributive R eview Committee may become less important compared to the Data Access Comm ittee. Second\, even if public health data is anonymised\, the risk of ide ntifiability is growing. This makes a third point relevant\, informed cons ent is crucial to respect the autonomy of patients and research subjects\, but current consent rules need to change to reflect the interactive and d ynamic communication process\, increasingly being realized in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Fourth\, even though data sharing for research is expected to be altruistic and the sale of human biospecimens a nd genome data remains prohibited\, current data sharing practices have be come more complicated\, and are closer to commercial use and commercialisa tion. Given these challenges\, continuing and deeper deliberation must be carried out in order to develop a more comprehensive and responsive govern ance framework.\n\nThe event is free\, but registration is obligatory as s paces are limited. Kindly RSVP to rghl.law [at] mcgill.ca. A light lunch w ill be served.\n\n \n DTSTART:20180111T173000Z DTEND:20180111T190000Z LOCATION:Room 3M-48\, Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C7\, 3640 rue University SUMMARY:Ethical\, Legal and Social Considerations on Precision Medicine in the Republic of Korea URL:/law/channels/event/ethical-legal-and-social-consi derations-precision-medicine-republic-korea-283693 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
