Spea kers will include distinguished leaders and rising stars\, with the goal o f bridging basic research and clinical perspectives.\n\n\nTo register\n\nT o watch the livestream\n\nSpeaker: Katja Kobow\, Assistant Professor\, Dep t. of Neuropathology\, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen\, Friedrich-Alexander -University (FAU) Erlangen\, Germany\n\nAbstract: Epigenetics is of outsta nding importance for brain function. It is implicated in regulating neurog enesis\, neuronal plasticity\, long-term synaptic plasticity\, and memory and may well contribute to the still not well understood pathomechanisms t urning a structurally normal or abnormal brain into a condition able to el icit recurrent seizure activity. At the interface with genetics and enviro nmental factors epigenetics is considered to contribute to the pathobiolog y of epilepsy and its co-morbidities. Beyond its gene regulatory function\ , epigenetics is also part of the molecular memory of any given cell. In t his talk\, I will discuss aberrant epigenetic changes as molecular pathome chanism in epilepsy and will show how we can use epigenetic signatures as diagnostic and predictive biomarker in epilepsy. Further\, provided the gr owing awareness for aberrant epigenomics in epileptogenesis\, there are al so new perspectives for epigenetic medicine as novel therapeutic strategy in difficult-to-treat epilepsies\, which will also be briefly discussed.\n DTSTART:20221124T210000Z DTEND:20221124T220000Z LOCATION:de Grandpre Communications Centre\, Montreal Neurological Institut e\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2B4\, 3801 rue University SUMMARY:NEURO Epilepsy Lecture Series: Epigenomics and epilepsy - from dise ase mechanisms to new diagnostic approaches URL:/neuro/channels/event/neuro-epilepsy-lecture-serie s-epigenomics-and-epilepsy-disease-mechanisms-new-diagnostic-approaches-34 3192 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
