He began his professional career in occupational therapy supporting older adults with complex needs at the CSSS Cavendish (now part of the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal) while also working in clinic epidemiology at the Health Centre. Shortly after he began working in acute care and cancer rehabilitation at the MUHC and was eventually appointed as a clinical advisor, representing the MUHC in provincial initiatives with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec (MSSS), contributing to policy development and healthcare system reform.

In spring 2024, he launched the Clinique de santé inclusive Vivago, offering affirming and accessible mental health services through an innovative service delivery model which places occupational therapy at the heart of interdisciplinary wellness. He later established the Fondation Vivago, a nonprofit organization that provides free mental health services to persons from marginalized groups and professional training on inclusive, trauma-informed, and equity-oriented care for healthcare professionals.

In addition to his academic and clinical leadership, Gio contributes to public discourse on health and social justice and is a writer for Les Connecteurs, the first French-language magazine on Apple News. He is known for bridging clinical innovation with systemic advocacy, combining occupational justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community empowerment in all facets of his work.
