Arteen Khachekyan, MA Student (Year 3)  

About:
Arteen Khachekyan is a third-year M.A. student at ’s Institute of Islamic Studies. Currently, Arteen’s research focuses on the 13th-century Jewish philosopher Saʻd ibn Manṣūr Ibn Kammūna of Baghdad (d. 1284) and his role within the post-Avicennan Illuminationist tradition. The project seeks to identify a unique “Ibn Kammūnian” strand of Illuminationist philosophy, highlighting the continued philosophical innovation in post-Mongol Baghdad and the significant contributions of Jewish thinkers to this tradition.

University of Toronto - Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA), Specialist in Philosophy and Major in Bioethics, with High Distinction, 2023

Areas of interest: History of Islamic Thought, Arabic and Islamic Philosophy, Muslim-Jewish Relations, Mamluk History, Women and Gender in Islam
