Funding opportunities

All funding opportunities specific to ºÚÁÏÍø are only available to ºÚÁÏÍø students.

If you receive an award through ºÚÁÏÍø that is funded by a private donor, at the end of your field study semester, you will be asked to provide a picture (preferably in the field) and a thank you note to the donor. The thank you note should contain the following information:

  • First paragraph: introduce yourself as the award recipient for (name of) award. Tell the donor where you are from and why you chose to study at ºÚÁÏÍø.

  • Second paragraph: talk about what you are studying and what you plan on doing once you graduate from ºÚÁÏÍø. Talk about how the field study semester impacted your current/future decisions.

  • Third paragraph: thank your benefactor for their generosity in setting up the award. Explain how the award helped you personally.

You should of course also consider external awards if you are eligible.

Enriched Educational Opportunities Bursaries (EEO)

The University has provided the Scholarships & Student Aid Office with special funding to pilot an Enriched Educational Opportunities (EEO) Program. The program will help students with the additional costs of the field study semester. Bursaries are non-repayable forms of financial assistance based on demonstrated financial need. Student Field Semester Program Support Bursary - Available until 15 November, 2025

The Student Field Program Support bursary is designed to help ensure that all students have equitable access to transformative field study experiences. This award is open to all students regardless of their

Students are invited to submit their applications between October 15 and November 15, 2025. We encourage you to apply early and take the time to provide thoughtful responses. All applicants will be notified of the results by early December.

Faculty of Science Field Study Awards

Denise Emma Benzacar Field Study Awards - Not available in 2025/26 academic year

The Denise Emma Benzacar Field Study Awards were established by Denise (BSc '58) and Tom Dailey to help Faculty of Science students participating in the Faculty of Science Study Semesters, engaging in research at ºÚÁÏÍø Field Study Stations or taking part in field work as part of their academic curriculum.

Award amount: Up to $1500 (amount may vary based on the number of applications)

David and Erica Davidovic Science Intern Award - Not available in 2025/26 academic year

The David and Erica Davidovic Science Intern Award was created in 2010 to benefit students studying abroad. The Davidovics recognize the value of out-of classroom learning experiences, particularly abroad, and an award value of several hundred dollars will be offered.

Ronald I. Levine Fund - Not available in 2025/26 academic year

The Ronald I. Levine Fund was created to help support the field study programs in the Faculty of Science through initiatives that would enable the Faculty of Science to consistently improve upon the services it provides to students participating in the field study programs.

Irene Woods Field Study Awards - Not available in 2025/26 academic year

The Irene Woods Field Study Awards were established by Irene Woods (M.Sc. '66) to help Faculty of Science students participating in the Faculty of Science Study Semesters, engaging in research at ºÚÁÏÍø Field Study Stations or taking part in field work as part of their academic curriculum.

Award amount: Up to $1500 (amount may vary based on the number of applications)

ºÚÁÏÍø Biology Student Union Bursary Fund

Biology students can also apply to the ºÚÁÏÍø Biology Student Union Bursary. The ºÚÁÏÍø Biology Student Union Bursary fund is a merit-based bursary awarded to Biology students wishing to pursue field courses within the Department of Biology at ºÚÁÏÍø. The MBSU is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the study of life; we believe that field studies are integral to an education in biology, and we strive to make field courses more accessible to our students.

Award amount: from $250-$1000 (amount may vary based on the number of applications)

Bieler School of Environment

Vivian Lewin Field Study Endowment Award

Awarded to meritorious Bieler School of Environment (BSE) students. The award supports BSE students who wish to take a ºÚÁÏÍø recognized field study abroad program OR have a pre-arranged independent course or Honours project that involves field research abroad. Bieler School of Environment Experiential Learning Fund (BELF)

The Bieler School of Environment Experiential Learning Fund (BELF) provides versatile financial support for experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom that enhances student knowledge, practical skill development, or network-building in the field of environment. The fund is designed to fund unique, one-off experiences that might otherwise be difficult to support through existing programs, including specific training that may be required to access other training opportunities such as internships. Schull Yang International Experience Award

This program is now transitioning to a need-based bursary. Students who are looking for funding and have financial need should apply via the EEO program for funding. /studentaid/special-funding/eeo

Les Offices Jeunesse Internationaux du Québec (LOJIQ)

If you are between 18 and 35 years old, canadian citizen or permanent resident, and have been living in Quebec for at least one year, you may receive funding for your project. For additional information on this funding opportunity, visit the website.
